Concrete
Custom concrete flatwork engineered for the Carolina coast — patios, walkways, and pads with proper base, drainage, and clean finished edges that hold up for decades.

Poured Right, Built to Last
Concrete is the unsung hero of outdoor living — the surface everything else is built on. Done right, it's a foundation that lasts decades; done wrong, it cracks, settles, and pulls the whole project down with it. At Bluefin Designs, we approach every concrete pour like it's structural, because in coastal North Carolina it has to be.
Our work covers the full range of residential concrete flatwork: curved patios behind sunrooms, driveway extensions, walkway runs, AC and pool-equipment pads, and stamped or smooth-finish slabs that pair with paver and stone work. We grade and compact a properly-engineered base, integrate drainage where it's needed, and finish edges clean — the small details that separate a concrete patio that ages well from one that has to be replaced.
Coastal Carolina conditions — sandy subgrade, salt-air, summer storms, and a high water table — demand a higher spec than inland work. We use a coastal-rated mix, control-joint placement that anticipates movement, and cure protocols that produce surfaces durable enough for the way you actually live outdoors.

Why homeowners choose concrete.
Every concrete project starts with a site walk to read drainage, subgrade, and how the slab will tie into existing structures. We mark the layout, prep base, set forms, and pour with the right reinforcement and cure for the application — not a one-size-fits-all spec.
01
Engineered Base
We compact and grade the subgrade properly, install reinforcement where it matters, and pour to a depth that matches the use — so the surface stays flat and crack-free for the long haul.
02
Built for Coastal Conditions
Salt air, sandy soil, and storm-surge runoff all attack concrete differently than inland environments. Our mix and finish are specced for that reality.
03
Clean, Finished Edges
Curves cut tight, edges troweled smooth, and control joints placed where they belong. The kind of detail that makes a slab feel custom instead of generic.
04
Pairs With Everything
Concrete works as both a finished surface and a base for stone, pavers, or stamped overlay. We coordinate concrete work with the rest of the build so nothing is wasted.

How we build your concrete.
Every concrete project starts with a site walk to read drainage, subgrade, and how the slab will tie into existing structures. We mark the layout, prep base, set forms, and pour with the right reinforcement and cure for the application — not a one-size-fits-all spec.
01
Layout & Grading
We mark the footprint on-site, set the grade for proper drainage, and identify any tie-ins with existing patios, walkways, or hardscape.
02
Base Prep
Excavation, compacted aggregate base, and reinforcement (mesh or rebar) sized to the slab's intended use.
03
Forming & Pouring
Forms set tight, control joints planned, and a coastal-rated mix poured and finished to the spec — broom, trowel, or stamped.
04
Curing & Edge Detail
Proper cure time, joint cleanup, and edge treatment so the slab transitions cleanly to grass, gravel, or adjacent hardscape.

Typical residential concrete patios run roughly $8–$15 per square foot for standard finishes, with stamped or decorative work ranging higher. Site conditions, base prep, and access all factor in — we provide detailed proposals after a site walk.
